Did you ever have one of those experiences where you read a book and then you went back and read every book by that author? Robert Stone is one of those authors that make someone into a lover of modern literature. Here is someone writing as well as has ever been written. Those people that worry about about the state of modern literature have hardly tried if they haven't read Stone, or Harrison for that matter. Check out his last fiction, BAY OF SOULS, or his National Book Award winning DOG SOLDIERS. His new book is a memoir of the sixties, but of course, we're all awaiting the next big novel, the one we've been promised for years. Stone will be at the bookstore tomorrow night. I can't wait. He's one of the best readers I've ever heard.
