Month of Craft in Mississippi

Governor Haley Barbour has declared June, 2007. to be the "Month of Craft in
Mississippi" to celebrate the opening of the new Mississippi Craft Center. The Craftsmen's Guild of Mississippi will operate the new 20,000 square feet facility on Rice Road at the Ross Barnett Reservoir in Ridgeland, Mississippi. A superintendent of the Natchez Trace said “The new Mississippi Craft Center will be the most important attraction on the Trace” and 13.5 million national and international visitors travel the Natchez Trace annually.

The grand opening festivities will begin on Thursday, May 31, with a Preview Party, from 7:00-10:00 p.m., $50 donation ($30 for Exhibiting Members); Dedication Ceremony on Friday, June 8, 10:00 a.m.; and a Summerfest Show and Sale, Saturday, June 9, from 10:00 a.m.-5:00 p.m., $3 admission.

Watch the new PBS special “Craft in America” on Wednesday, May 30th, from 7-10 p.m. CDST, on your local affiliate. Mississippi Public Broadcasting is partnering with the Craftsmen's Guild of Mississippi to present the series and has interviews with Mississippi craftsmen and views of the new Mississippi Craft Center during the broadcast.
